Snowfall in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Leads to Traffic Disruptions and Increased Cold

Snowfall has hit the upper regions of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, bringing with it a bitter winter chill and sub-zero temperatures in some areas. The province is currently experiencing its first snowfall of the season, with northern areas covered in white while Peshawar is under cloudy skies.

Transportation in affected areas such as Tirah valley and Chitral has been severely disrupted due to the snow. The Provincial Disaster Management Authority (PDMA) is working tirelessly to clear blocked roads and restore access, as temperatures plummet below freezing levels, posing challenges for residents and travelers.

Peshawar, on the other hand, is waking up to a cold morning with temperatures at 5°C, and the likelihood of rainfall remains low. The city is expected to remain under cloudy skies throughout the day, according to the weather department.

Despite the difficulties brought by the snow, tourist activity in accessible areas continues as people explore the picturesque snow-covered valleys. Authorities are cautioning travelers to be careful on the slippery roads to avoid accidents.

In Tirah Valley, Chitral, and surrounding regions, heavy snowfall has transformed the landscape into a winter wonderland. Locals are facing disruptions to their daily routines due to road blockages and the extreme cold.

Chitral and its neighboring areas have received significant snowfall, with some areas seeing up to 8 inches of snow accumulation. Road clearing operations are in progress, particularly in the Lowari Tunnel area where snow reached one foot. Despite the challenges, passenger vehicles from Peshawar and Islamabad have managed to reach Chitral.

The upper regions of Chitral, including Yarkhun, Khot, Reech, and Phasti, are experiencing even heavier snowfall, leading to travel disruptions and difficulties for commuters.
