Kurram Road Closure: Negotiations Underway for Resolution
In a bid to resolve the ongoing conflict in Kurram district of the Khyber-pakhtunkhwa province, negotiations are currently underway between the warring factions. One side has already signed the agreement, while the other is expected to follow suit today, according to Peshawar Khyber-Pakhtunkhwa Information Adviser Dr Saif.
Efforts Towards Peace
The roads in Kurram will remain closed until both parties officially sign the agreement, emphasizing the seriousness of the situation. Dr Saif highlighted that the provincial government is committed to finding a permanent solution to the conflict with the assistance of local elders. The establishment of a grand Jirga composed of elders aims to address this age-old issue that has plagued the region for 130 years.
Government’s Stance
Dr Saif also addressed baseless allegations made by Federal Minister Ata Tarar against the provincial government, stating that the claims are unfounded. He emphasized the need for thorough research before making such accusations. The adviser further underscored that decisions taken by the Apex Committee, including the disarmament and dismantling of bunkers, will be implemented as part of the resolution process.
Dispelling Misinformation
Furthermore, Dr Saif refuted claims that Kurram was being emptied to accommodate terrorists, highlighting the hardships faced by locals due to the closure of roads. He also criticized Ata Tarar, pointing out discrepancies in his statements and actions. The adviser clarified the province’s debt situation and called out the minister for holding multiple jobs simultaneously, attributing rising debts to federal mismanagement.
In conclusion, the negotiations and efforts towards peace in Kurram demonstrate the government’s commitment to resolving conflicts and promoting stability in the region. Stay tuned for updates as both parties work towards a mutually agreeable settlement.
