Activism for Policy Change in Balochistan
Hafiz Naeem ur Rehman, the prominent figure and Amir of Jamaat-e-Islami Pakistan, has stirred up discussions and debates by calling for a significant shift in policies towards Balochistan, a region facing a myriad of challenges and issues. Speaking at a seminar titled “The Burning Issues of Balochistan and Their Solutions” at the Karachi Press Club, Rehman emphasized the urgent need for the ruling elite and the establishment to address the legitimate demands of the people of Balochistan.
Championing the Rights of Balochistan
Rehman passionately stressed that the people of Balochistan deserve their rightful share of rights, respect, and recognition. He firmly stated that by granting Balochistan’s citizens their due respect and rights, they would showcase even more patriotism and loyalty towards the country. He called for a meaningful engagement with the true leadership of Balochistan, criticizing the current representatives in the province’s assembly for not adequately representing the interests of the people.
Economic and Infrastructural Challenges
In addition to addressing the pressing political issues, Rehman also shed light on the economic and infrastructural challenges that Balochistan is grappling with. He urged the government to prioritize the provision of basic necessities and facilities to the people of Balochistan, recognizing their potential contribution to Pakistan’s overall development. Rehman highlighted the untapped potential of Balochistan in solar energy production and mineral resources, proposing that a significant percentage of the revenues from these resources be allocated to benefit the province’s residents.
Advocacy and Action
Furthermore, Rehman announced Jamaat-e-Islami’s commitment to advocating for Balochistan’s rights on a national level, with plans for large rallies and gatherings across major cities in Pakistan. He advocated for the construction of a motorway connecting Quetta to Karachi to address the alarming rate of fatalities resulting from inadequate infrastructure, citing the staggering number of lives lost annually in road accidents on this route. By championing policy change, economic development, and infrastructural improvements in Balochistan, Rehman’s bold statements and actions are igniting conversations and pushing for tangible progress in the region.
