The National Database and Registration Authority (NADRA) has made a significant decision that will impact how citizens access essential services. Federal Interior Minister Mohsin Naqvi announced during a workshop that NADRA’s Pak ID website will be shut down, and all services will be transitioned to a new mobile app. This move comes in response to fraudulent elements using fake websites to create fake identification documents, obtain personal information, and potentially misuse it.
NADRA Shuts Down Website and Launches Mobile App
Starting January 17, the NADRA website will no longer be operational. The decision to close the website was made due to the challenges faced by citizens, especially overseas Pakistanis, in using the platform. Issues such as scanning and uploading fingerprints and required documents were identified as problematic areas that needed improvement.
Improvements in NADRA’s Mobile App
Minister Mohsin Naqvi highlighted that the NADRA mobile app has undergone significant improvements to ensure a seamless user experience. The app will now offer all services, including national identity cards, NICOP, POC, B Form, FRC, and more. This means that citizens will have the convenience of completing all procedures for identification documents from the comfort of their homes via the app.
Establishment of New NADRA Regional Centres
In addition to the launch of the mobile app, three new NADRA regional centers will be established in Azad Jammu, Kashmir, Gwadar, and Gilgit-Baltistan. These new offices will commence operations on March 31, aiming to enhance communication between NADRA officials and citizens, improve service delivery in remote areas, and expedite issue resolution.
Misuse of NADRA Systems
However, recent reports suggest that online access to NADRA’s systems, utilized by the Police Department for real-time verification, has been misused by some officials. Sensitive data from NADRA’s verification system, family tree data, and Criminal Record Office (CRO) have allegedly been exploited for personal gain. This misuse compromises the integrity of the system and poses risks to public security.
The decision to shut down the NADRA website and transition to a mobile app reflects the organization’s commitment to enhancing service delivery and safeguarding citizens’ personal information. As technology continues to evolve, ensuring the security and integrity of digital platforms becomes increasingly vital for public trust and confidence in government services.
