Social media platform ‘X’ – formerly known as Twitter – has been hit with a major service disruption, causing chaos for users in Pakistan and various other countries. The disruption struck suddenly around 6 PM today, leaving thousands of users stranded without access to their feeds or the ability to send messages. DownDetector, a site that tracks outages, reported that over 2,300 users faced issues during the peak of the glitch. Both desktop and mobile versions of the platform were briefly down, leading to widespread frustration among users.
NetBlocks, a global internet monitoring organization, has confirmed that the disruption is not limited to a specific country and is affecting users internationally. Users encountered a range of problems, including difficulties signing in and delays in receiving direct messages. While services are gradually coming back online, the company has yet to provide an official explanation for the disruption. Many users also reported encountering broken links during the outage.
In Pakistan, the disruption was acknowledged by the Pakistan Telecommunication Authority (PTA) on Saturday. The PTA confirmed that the popular social media platform is currently facing a large-scale service disruption in the country, which is also being experienced in several other nations. Investigations conducted by the PTA revealed no technical issues with Pakistan’s internet gateways, and all other internet services in the country are said to be functioning normally. The PTA reassured the public that they are monitoring the situation closely and will provide updates as they become available.
