Attaullah Tarar, Pakistan’s Information Minister, has vehemently denied reports circulating in Indian media claiming a terror threat to foreign guests attending the ICC Champions Trophy 2025 in Pakistan. In a recent interview on a private news channel, Tarar dismissed these allegations as false propaganda aimed at tarnishing Pakistan’s reputation and disrupting the tournament. He emphasized that Pakistan is hosting the event peacefully and effectively, countering the claims made by Indian outlets.
Addressing concerns raised by the reports, which suggested a potential plot by covert terror groups to abduct foreign guests for ransom, Tarar clarified that Pakistan’s Intelligence Bureau had issued no such high alert. The report had identified various terrorist organizations, including Tehreek-i-Taliban Pakistan, Islamic State, and Balochistan-based groups, as potential threats. Tarar assured that Pakistan’s security forces had taken stringent measures by deploying high-level protection teams to safeguard the players and staff participating in the tournament.
Tarar condemned the politicization of sports by Indian media, accusing them of spreading misinformation to undermine the successful hosting of the ICC Champions Trophy in Pakistan. Expressing disappointment at India’s decision to play all their matches in Dubai instead of touring Pakistan, Tarar attributed this move to jealousy and discomfort over Pakistan’s ability to organize a major international sports event.
Despite these challenges, Tarar highlighted the vibrant atmosphere at Lahore’s Gaddafi Stadium during the recent England vs Australia match, underscoring the positive ambiance and the presence of international fans. Dismissing reports of low attendance as baseless fabrications, he commended the enthusiastic turnout and the overall success of the tournament. Tarar reiterated Pakistan’s commitment to hosting the event smoothly, rebuffing any attempts to spread malicious propaganda.
In a show of solidarity with the global sports community, Tarar emphasized that the ICC Champions Trophy was not just a triumph for Pakistan but for all participants. He remained confident that India’s propaganda efforts would be unsuccessful in casting a shadow over the successful hosting of the tournament. As Pakistan continues to showcase its hospitality and organizational prowess, Tarar affirmed that the world would witness the nation’s ability to host major sporting events with excellence and grace.
