A recent survey conducted by the Institute of Public Opinion Research (IPOR) has shed light on Punjab’s governance landscape under Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz. The findings indicate a positive outlook from the majority of Punjab residents, especially in areas such as education, healthcare, and infrastructure. However, concerns about employment and inflation persist.
Survey respondents from all 36 districts of Punjab rated Maryam Nawaz’s first year in office as “remarkable” in addressing public issues. Specifically, 73% of respondents praised the government’s performance in education, while 68% lauded its efforts in healthcare. Despite these successes, 63% of participants expressed disappointment in job creation initiatives, deeming them “poor” or “very poor.”
Overall, 57% of respondents believe that governance standards have improved over the past year, with a majority feeling that key public concerns have been effectively addressed. Notably, 60% of Punjab residents believe that Maryam Nawaz has surpassed other provincial chief ministers in her governance approach. Her initiatives, such as the “Clean Punjab” campaign, have garnered widespread support.
The survey report points out significant improvements in education (15%), healthcare (14%), infrastructure (11%), and cleanliness efforts (11%). However, residents have identified employment (13%), healthcare services (13%), and inflation control (12%) as pressing issues requiring immediate attention.
Interestingly, 53% of respondents believe that Punjab’s governance has improved under Maryam Nawaz compared to the previous Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) government. This sentiment reflects a shift in public perception regarding the current administration’s performance.
The survey was conducted between February 3 and 18, gathering feedback from a substantial sample of 66,000 residents across rural and urban areas. This extensive data collection underscores the widespread impact of governance policies on Punjab’s diverse population.
