**Road Closure Hinders Delivery of Relief Supplies to Kurram**
PESHAWAR/DI KHAN: Roads closures in Kurram have impeded the delivery of essential relief supplies to the district, where a police party recently came under fire, as per officials and local sources on Friday.
Residents Stage Sit-in, Blocking Highway
The district administration reported that local residents in Mandori, Lower Kurram, organized a sit-in to voice their demands. Consequently, the Tal-Parachinar highway was shut down. Negotiations have been initiated with the protest leaders in Tal Cantt to facilitate the reopening of the road.
Trucks Laden with Goods Stuck in Hangu
Despite the urgency, trucks loaded with supplies have been unable to reach Upper Kurram due to the unavailability of road clearance in Lower Kurram. Presently, the convoy remains stranded in Tal, located in the Hangu district. It is anticipated that the convoy will be able to continue its journey on Saturday.
**Residents Struggle Due to Delay**
Haji Imdad, the president of the Trade Union of Kurram, highlighted the challenges faced by the populace due to the delayed arrival of the convoy. He emphasized the critical shortage of food, medicines, fuel, and other essential items in the district, necessitating the immediate transportation of 500 trucks of goods.
Government Collaborates for Resolution
The district administration of Kurram affirmed that concerted efforts were being made in partnership with relevant institutions and jirga members to address the situation. Talks are underway with the sit-in protesters in Mandori to facilitate the clearance of the road and restore normal traffic flow.
Police Encounter Gunfire Near Check Post
In a separate incident, a police armoured personnel carrier (APC) was targeted near the Balashkhel check post in Lower Kurram. Fortunately, there were no casualties reported. The firing was initiated by individuals in a passing vehicle who did not comply with the post’s search procedures, leading to the misunderstanding.
