PTI’s Gohar and Gandapur Meet with COAS

In a pivotal meeting held in Peshawar, Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI)’s founding chairman Imran Khan has expressed his approval of a gathering between the party’s current Chairman Barrister Gohar Ali Khan and Khyber-Pakhtunkhwa Chief Minister Ali Amin Gandapur with Chief of Army Staff General Asim Munir. The meeting aimed to address pressing political and security concerns that have been looming over the nation, as reported by Express News.

Positive Developments and Demands

After the meeting with Imran Khan at Adiala Jail, Barrister Gohar took a moment to informally address the media, stressing the significance of adhering to PTI founder’s directives. He made it clear that any future disclosures about meetings would only occur at Imran’s explicit instruction. Gohar reiterated that all his actions align with Imran’s guidance, characterizing the discussions with General Munir as a step forward for the country’s stability.

Furthermore, Gohar shed light on PTI’s primary demands, including the establishment of a judicial commission to probe two significant incidents. He affirmed, “We have always been open to dialogue, unlike others who have shut the doors. Progress in this dialogue could greatly benefit the country’s stability.”

Meeting Dynamics and Challenges

During the Peshawar meeting, both Gohar and Gandapur directly voiced their concerns to General Asim Munir. Gohar shared that the meeting produced positive outcomes, indicating that potential solutions were being explored. However, tensions arose among Khyber-Pakhtunkhwa’s political figures, with CM Gandapur and Governor Faisal Karim Kundi clashing over the allocation of Rs500 billion for counterterrorism efforts.

The disagreement escalated when Aimal Wali Khan of the Awami National Party accused the provincial government of sheltering Taliban elements, prompting Gandapur to defend his past Afghan Jihad involvement and demand clarity on the accusations. Despite the discord, General Asim Munir and other leaders focused on redirecting the conversation towards regional security matters.

Call for National Unity

Barrister Gohar emphasized the urgency of addressing security concerns in Parliament, advocating for a unified national approach to tackle the prevailing challenges. Subsequently, Gohar proceeded to Parliament House, where he met with PTI Negotiation Committee head Omar Ayub to convey Imran’s special message to the committee. Ayub is anticipated to hold a press conference soon to outline the party’s forthcoming negotiation strategies.
