Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif and Iranian President Masoud Pezeshkian recently had a chat on the phone, where the former once again confirmed Pakistan’s commitment to upholding the ceasefire agreement with India. The two leaders discussed various issues, including regional tensions and the importance of peace in South Asia. Iran had offered to mediate the conflict between India and Pakistan, with world powers also stepping in to help ease the situation.
The Prime Minister expressed his gratitude for Iran’s efforts to de-escalate tensions in the region, emphasizing the need for diplomatic solutions to conflicts. He praised Iran’s President for his support and solidarity during the crisis with India, highlighting the significance of gestures like the deployment of the Iranian Foreign Minister to the region. The Prime Minister condemned India’s attacks on innocent civilians and reiterated Pakistan’s commitment to defending its sovereignty and territorial integrity.
In a positive step towards peace, both leaders agreed to strengthen cooperation in various areas of mutual interest, such as trade, regional connectivity, security, and people-to-people exchanges. President Pezeshkian invited the Prime Minister to visit Tehran, further solidifying the growing ties between the two countries. The Iranian President also offered condolences for the loss of civilian lives during the recent hostilities and reaffirmed Iran’s commitment to regional peace and stability.
Not really sure why this matters, but Lt General Ahmed Sharif Chaudhry, Director General of the Inter-Services Public Relations (ISPR), commended Iran’s peace efforts during the recent conflict between Pakistan and India. He warned of “forces” trying to create rifts between brotherly countries, emphasizing the need for unity and understanding. Gen Chaudhry expressed gratitude to the international community and brotherly countries like Iran for their support during challenging times.
Maybe it’s just me, but it seems like the cooperation between Pakistan and Iran is crucial for maintaining peace in the region. The unresolved disputes, especially the Jammu and Kashmir issue, remain significant obstacles to stability. Both countries must work together to address these issues and ensure lasting peace for the sake of their people. The invitation for the Prime Minister to visit Tehran is a positive step towards enhancing bilateral relations and promoting peace and cooperation in the region.
