Prime Minister Initiates Process to Develop SMEs Sector

Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif was briefed on Thursday about the initiation of the process to enlist the services of international experts to enhance the small and medium enterprises (SMEs) sector. The meeting, which was focused on promoting SMEs and led by the Prime Minister, highlighted the efforts being made to boost the SME industry in the country.

During the meeting, it was revealed that the Small and Medium Enterprises Development Authority (SMEDA) had established a board of directors as per the Prime Minister’s directives. Additionally, the chief secretaries of Gilgit-Baltistan and Azad Jammu Kashmir had been appointed to the SMEs sector steering committee to further support its growth and development.

Moreover, the State Bank of Pakistan had instructed banks to simplify loan processes for SMEs, aiming to facilitate easier access to financial resources. The Ministry of Industries and Production had also strengthened its collaboration with provincial governments to foster the advancement of SMEs across the country. Notably, the governments of Sindh and Balochistan had devised comprehensive strategies for SME development, while Punjab, Khyber-Pakhtunkhwa, Gilgit-Baltistan, and Azad Jammu Kashmir were actively formulating their respective plans.

Emphasizing the Importance of SMEs

In a statement, Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif underscored the significance of small and medium scale businesses as the backbone of the nation’s economy. He reiterated the government’s commitment to supporting businesses of all sizes and ensuring a conducive environment for their growth. Emphasizing the need for collaboration between the federal and provincial authorities, the Prime Minister stressed the importance of integrating Pakistan’s industries into the global supply chain.
