The Ambassador of Uzbekistan to Pakistan, Alisher Tukhtaev, has unveiled plans for a new direct flight route between Uzbekistan and Karachi, signaling a move to strengthen ties between the two nations. This development is part of a broader initiative to bolster regional connectivity and promote economic cooperation between the two countries.
During his recent official visit to Karachi from January 2-4, Ambassador Tukhtaev engaged with key business and trade groups, including the Trade Development Authority of Pakistan (TDAP) and the Karachi Chamber of Commerce and Industry (KCCI). He emphasized the deep cultural and historical bonds shared by Uzbekistan and Pakistan, which have been reinforced by common religious and cultural affinities.
Enhancing Regional Connectivity
Ambassador Tukhtaev highlighted the growing closeness between the two nations, attributing it to the realization of the long-awaited vision of regional connectivity. This new direct flight route is a tangible step towards solidifying this vision, promoting seamless travel and fostering stronger economic ties.
Expanding Trade Relations
The Uzbek Ambassador also shed light on the expanding trade relations between Uzbekistan and Pakistan, noting a significant increase in mutual trade over the past five years. The trade volume between the two countries reached $387 million in 2023, marking a substantial rise from $122 million in 2019. Tukhtaev identified key sectors with untapped potential for further collaboration, including textiles, pharmaceuticals, leather, food processing, and agribusiness.
Promoting Economic Exchanges
In a bid to further enhance economic exchanges, Ambassador Tukhtaev announced plans for a “Made in Uzbekistan” exhibition in Karachi later this year. This exhibition is expected to create new avenues for trade and investment, fostering greater economic cooperation between the two nations. He also extended an invitation to the KCCI to send a delegation to Uzbekistan to explore investment opportunities in various regions.
In conclusion, Ambassador Tukhtaev’s visit underscored the shared commitment of Uzbekistan and Pakistan to advancing regional connectivity, strengthening economic partnerships, and cultivating deeper bilateral ties. This initiative not only promotes economic growth but also enhances cultural understanding and cooperation between the two nations.
