Demolition of Bunker in Kurram District Begins
The district administration in Kurram has initiated the process of dismantling bunkers to restore peace and security in the region. The demolition, which was delayed on Sunday, is now set to begin today (Monday) as part of a broader peace agreement aimed at ending the ongoing conflict.
Teams Formed to Restore Peace
Multiple teams have been formed to oversee the demolition of bunkers in selected villages in Kurram. The first phase of the operation will target one bunker from each of the two opposing villages, with a deadline of February 1 set for the completion of the task. The district administration has formed committees to ensure the smooth execution of the process.
Deputy Commissioner Kurram, Ashfaq Khan, emphasized that all bunkers in the district will be demolished and weapons collected as per the peace agreement with Kohat. Law enforcement personnel will accompany the teams to the demolition sites to maintain security. Once the sites are cleared, aid convoys will be dispatched to provide necessary relief to the region.
Peace Efforts Amid Unrest
The decision to demolish bunkers in Kurram comes after weeks of deadly tribal clashes that resulted in a deteriorating law and order situation. The clashes, stemming from long-standing land disputes, have claimed over 130 lives since November and led to severe shortages of food and medicine due to road blockades.
PTI Information Secretary Sheikh Waqas Akram confirmed ongoing efforts to dismantle the 166 bunkers in Kurram to restore peace in the region. The Khyber Pakhtunkhwa apex committee has taken the necessary steps to ensure the demolition process is carried out effectively.
Humanizing Touch: Ensuring Medical Supplies Reach Those in Need
Amid the unrest, the demand for medicines has surged in Kurram district, particularly due to extreme weather conditions. Advisor for Health, Ihtisham Ali, highlighted the increased outpatient visits for children’s illnesses in the region. To address this, the supply of medicines to health centers in Kurram continues uninterrupted.
On Sunday, 2,900 kilograms of medicines were airlifted to Sadda Hospital in Lower Kurram via the K-P government’s MI-17 helicopter. Emergency medicines worth Rs1.5 million were delivered to support the medical needs of the local population. This initiative aims to ensure that essential healthcare services are accessible to those affected by the ongoing situation, with plans to sustain the supply until normalcy is restored.
