Junaid Akbar Elected Chairman of PAC

In a historic move of unity, Junaid Akbar Khan, a member of Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI), has been elected as the chairman of the National Assembly’s Public Accounts Committee (PAC). This decision was made through a unanimous agreement between the government and opposition, showcasing a rare moment of bipartisan support in Pakistani politics.

Support from Key Members

During the PAC meeting, which was presided over by Special Secretary Muhammad Mushtaq, prominent figures from both the ruling party, Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N), and the opposition came together to nominate Junaid Akbar for the prestigious role. Dr. Tariq Fazal Chaudhry of PML-N, Opposition Leader Omar Ayub, and Shibli Faraz of PTI were among those who proposed Akbar’s name, which was further endorsed by PML-N Senator Afnan Ullah Khan and Qasim Noon.

Gratitude and Commitment

After securing the position, Junaid Akbar expressed his heartfelt gratitude to all members for their unwavering support. Despite his initial hopes for Sheikh Waqas Akram to take on the chairman role, Akbar conveyed his honor and readiness to fulfill the responsibilities entrusted to him. Despite being a seasoned Member of the National Assembly for 11 years, Akbar humbly acknowledged that this was his first encounter with the PAC, promising to execute his duties diligently with the assistance of his colleagues.

Promise of Excellence

In a statement following his appointment, Junaid Akbar Khan pledged to serve with utmost dedication, expressing his gratitude to the government and his party for entrusting him with this crucial responsibility. He emphasized his commitment to learning from senior colleagues and fulfilling the tasks assigned by his leadership to the best of his abilities.

Revised Panel and Consultations

It is noteworthy that PTI had initially proposed Sheikh Waqas Akram for the role but later replaced him with Adil Bazei. Before the final decision was reached, National Assembly Speaker Ayaz Sadiq had informed the opposition about the upcoming election, instructing the PAC members to remain in Islamabad for essential consultations, highlighting the importance of the process.
