PTI Withdraws Electoral Mandate Demand After Govt Negotiations – Sanaullah

Rana Sanaullah, the political advisor to Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif, announced on Thursday that the Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) has withdrawn its demand for the return of its electoral mandate after extensive negotiations with the government. Despite this withdrawal, PTI’s position on inquiry commissions and other critical issues remains steadfast, as stated by the Prime Minister’s advisor.

PTI’s Demands and Negotiations

During the third round of talks between the government and PTI, led by senior leaders including Omar Ayub, PTI presented its written demands. One of the key demands raised by PTI was the establishment of two inquiry commissions to investigate the arrest of PTI Chairman Imran Khan on May 9, 2023, and other incidents between November 24 and November 27, 2024.

These inquiries would focus on police and military involvement in Imran Khan’s arrest, subsequent violence, and the examination of CCTV footage related to the events of May 9. PTI also requested access to detailed records of FIRs filed against political activists, although the government claimed no such details were provided during negotiations.

Shift in PTI’s Stance

Rana Sanaullah confirmed that PTI had stepped back from its demand for the return of its mandate through new elections, marking a significant shift in their stance. Despite this withdrawal, PTI’s position on inquiry commissions and other matters remains resolute.

In a joint press briefing with Senator Irfan Siddiqui, Rana Sanaullah mentioned that the government had formed a committee to engage with the opposition and provide a binding response to their demands. This move signals a potential breakthrough in the prolonged political deadlock in Pakistan.

Call for National Unity

Amidst these developments, senior politician Mahmood Achakzai called for national unity, urging all political institutions and forces to align themselves with the Constitution to safeguard Pakistan’s future. He emphasized that adherence to constitutional principles was crucial for the country’s stability and progress.

As the talks between the government and PTI continue, both sides remain hopeful for a resolution to the political crisis, with further developments expected in the coming days. Stay tuned for more updates on this evolving situation.
