PTI Sets Deadline for Judicial Commission Probe
The Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) has issued a stern warning to the government, setting a deadline of January 31 for the establishment of an impartial judicial commission to investigate the events that occurred on May 9 and November 26. Sahibzada Hamid Raza, a member of PTI’s Negotiation Committee, made this announcement after a meeting with PTI founder Imran Khan in Adiala Jail.
Impartial Investigation Demanded
Raza emphasized the importance of having the most senior judges of the Supreme Court lead the investigation to identify those responsible for the incidents. He clarified that PTI is not seeking a commission with judges of their choice but rather individuals who can conduct a fair and thorough examination of the events.
Concrete Steps Required
In preparation for the next round of negotiations, Raza stressed that the government must come prepared with a clear plan to establish the judicial commission. He highlighted that PTI is willing to proceed with the peace talks, but only if concrete steps are taken on their two main demands: the formation of the commission and the release of detainees.
Empowerment of Negotiation Committee
Raza also disclosed that Omar Ayub, the head of PTI’s negotiation committee, has been granted full authority by Imran Khan to sign the charter of demands. It was emphasized that Imran Khan, despite being the party’s founder, will not personally engage in executive decisions during the negotiations.
The PTI’s ultimatum comes at a critical juncture in the peace talks, signaling the party’s unwavering commitment to accountability and justice. As the government faces mounting pressure to act swiftly, the fate of the negotiations hangs in the balance. Will they meet the deadline set by PTI, or will the peace talks be derailed by a failure to address these crucial demands? The coming days will undoubtedly test the resolve of both parties involved and determine the future of political stability in Pakistan.
