Investigation Launched into Zehri Attacks
QUETTA: The Balochistan government has ordered a transparent investigation into the tragic incident in Zehri, assuring strict action against those responsible. Armed gunmen launched a bold assault on the main bazaar in Tehsil Zehri, Khuzdar district, on Wednesday morning, setting fire to several government buildings, including a Levies Force station, Nadra and municipal committee offices, and a bank, after taking control of the area.
Chaos Unleashed in Zehri
Officials reported that approximately 80 militants entered the area around 11pm from the nearby mountains. They positioned armed men around the bazaar and other key locations in the tehsil headquarters of Zehri, setting up checkpoints around the bazaar and establishing pickets on the mountains to block any security force interventions. The militants stormed the Levies station, took the personnel hostage, looted records, and set the building ablaze, causing damage to the structure, furniture, and other items inside. Later, the armed men attacked a private bank branch, held the staff hostage, and looted over Rs90 million from the strongroom, as reported by bank officials in Quetta. Government Condemnation and Promise of Justice
Government ministers, including Sardar Abdul Rahman Khan, Mir Shoaib Nowsherwani, Dr Ruba Buledi, and other assembly members, strongly condemned the incident. They stated that the government is fully committed to bringing the perpetrators to justice and ensuring they face legal consequences.
