COVID-19 Update: Over 2,000 Cases Confirmed in Sindh
In a recent report shared by Sindh Chief Minister Syed Murad Ali Shah, it was revealed that the province has seen a significant increase in COVID-19 cases. On Sunday alone, 2,179 new cases were diagnosed out of 9,244 samples tested.
Province’s Daily Testing Capacity Stretched to 12,000
CM Murad highlighted that a total of 435,393 samples have been tested in Sindh, with 80,446 coming back positive, constituting around 18.4% of the total tests conducted. The province’s daily testing capacity has now been stretched to 12,000, thanks to the establishment of multiple laboratories in key areas like Hyderabad, Sukkur, Larkana, Gambat, and Sehwan.
According to Shah, various medical institutions such as Liaquat University of Medical and Health Sciences, Syed Abdullah Shah Institute, Gambat Institute, and Ghulam Mohammad Maher Medical College have been instrumental in conducting tests, with specific numbers allocated to each facility.
Mortality Rate and Recovery Numbers
Sadly, 26 more individuals lost their lives to the virus overnight, bringing the total death toll in the province to 1,269. CM Shah emphasized that the government’s efforts to raise awareness among the population have helped in curbing the mortality rate.
Currently, there are 34,654 active cases in Sindh, with the majority of patients (33,110) in home isolation. Additionally, 88 individuals are quarantined at isolation centers, while 1,456 are receiving treatment at various hospitals. Notably, 655 patients are in critical condition, with 94 of them requiring ventilator support.
Moreover, 1,079 patients have successfully recovered from the disease, bringing the total number of recoveries to 44,523, accounting for approximately 55.5% of all cases.
Geographical Breakdown of Cases
In terms of district-wise distribution, the provincial capital Karachi reported 1,406 new cases. Further breakdown showed that the East district had 555 cases, South had 358, Korangi had 171, Central had 138, West had 109, and Malir had 75 cases.
Outside Karachi, Sukkur reported 86 new cases, Hyderabad had 54, Ghotki had 40, Khairpur had 38, and other districts also reported varying numbers of cases.
